Marlay Soup Stall

At the Food Market in Marlay Park they now have a soup stall that sells some vegan soup! I tried the deliciously creamy broccoli soup, and could have eaten at least another three bowls full! There was also a vegan mushroom soup, a vegetarian spinach soup and a tomatoey-oniony kind of soup which I was dismayed to discover had sausages in it! For €3.50 you get a reasonably large takeaway pot of your choice of soup, a large half-slice of wholesome brown bread (although I'm sure you could ask for two if you wanted!), topped with herb & cruton garnishes. My friends and I also bought vegan almond & hazelnut cookies from the Blazing Salads stall, falafels, and many other kinds of cakes. Next time I come here I am going to try the tabbouleh and baba-ganoush from the falafel stall.

Marlay Park Farmers Market

Today the boy and I cycled out to Marlay Park, in Rathfarnham. It was a lovely sunny day for a picnic and a stroll in the woods. Every Saturday there is a Farmers Market here in the courtyard of the main house. While the boy had brought a sandwich and a fruit salad with him straight from work, I had a yummy lettuce and red cabbage salad, 4 falafels and salsa & hummus dips. There were also stalls selling organic fruit jams, bread, cakes, muffins, olives, condiments, fish, pizzas, sausages and pretzels - something for everyone. Blazing Salads have a stall here selling their delicious bread and vegan cookies.

Here's a little photo collage of our afternoon trip. Pictured are some of Blazing Salad's cookies, my Falafel Salad, the Organic Jam stall, and a cute shot of myself and the boy holding hands ;) Click on it to enlarge!

Crumpets!

How come I thought ALL crumpets were non-vegan for so long?! I remember looking at a few different sorts and seeing "butter" listed as an ingredient, possibly in the raising agent... and today I discovered that Tesco's own crumpets are dairy-free! HALLELUJAH! How I have missed crumpets. I bought a pack of 12 and plan to have 2 for breakfast tomorrow with a little bit of peanut butter. Oh my sweet Lord I have missed crumpets...
